GAP Open House Parent Meeting

Hello Grade 9 and 10 Parents:

The Global Action Program takes place from October 16th to October 23rd... less than 2 months from now!

Excitement is building as it's now just days away from revealing your child's 2010 GAP DESTINATION!!! When you arrive at our Ampang Campus this Thursday at 5:20, you will find your child's Open House schedule being distributed by the National Honor Society members. Important GAP information will be attached to that schedule. Once you discover your child's site for GAP, you are welcome to call or SMS her/him immediately. Then please join all Grade 9 and 10 parents in the Theater at 5:30 where we will discuss the payment process for GAP, the SOS International Medical insurance that ISKL will arrange for your child for the GAP week, and the important documents you must complete with your child. Those documents (a medical update, a liability release form, an emergency parent contact update, etc.) are all due at your daughter/son's first GAP student meeting on Wed, Sept. 1 from 3:00 to 3:45.

All of the GAP Trip Leaders are ready to welcome you this Thursday, August 26th. This week's GAP Parent Meeting is your one and only chance to meet personally with the parents of students in your child's GAP group, along with the 2 ISKL faculty Trip Leads. The Trip Leads will introduce themselves, explain their philosophy of experiential learning, and share their enthusiasm for the special adventures offered on their GAP trip. In addition, Trip Leads will provide you with a packing list, discuss departure and pick-up times, and provide a calendar of your child's GAP commitments (dates/deadlines to submit passports for visas, GAP trip meetings, etc.)

See you all on Thursday!

Dear New Students:

Welcome to ISKL!! I hope your arrival in KL has been smooth and that you are finding your way to classes/after-school activities in the high school. By now you've learned about our October GAP (Global Action Program) for grades 9 and 10 at either your New Student Orientation or last week's grade level meetings. In addition to presentations at those meetings, I've sent you all a letter with detailed instructions on how to register for GAP. While I understand that you are probably very busy with homework and settling in, please know that it is URGENT you register for GAP tonight----the airlines needs your actual name to hold a flight booking for you.

What options are still open for Grade 9 and 10 GAP?

Grade 9, we still have places available on the trips to

Bali, India, Laos, N Thailand, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.

Grade 10, we still have places available on

Cambodia, Sumatra, Thailand and Nepal.

Please register TONIGHT with your parents!!!! You may email me jjames@iskl.edu.my or see me in the HS Office if you need help. I look forward to placing you into a GAP group and personally welcoming you to ISKL.

Ms Julie James

GAP Director

Trip Registration will open Sunday May 9 at 3 pm

The GAP site is open now for you and your family to view all 8 trip options. To give you time to consider and discuss the choices, the REGISTER HERE link will not be open until tomorrow--Sunday at 3pm so that families have a day to consider options before the registration begins.

How do I complete the online registration for GAP this weekend?

Read about all 8 options for your grade level by clicking on the the title of each trip on the navigation bar. Then you will be able to view the slide show and day-by-day itinerary for each of 8 trips. After considering all 8 options and discussing them all with your parents, decide which would be best for you. Choose your top four and rank them 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.

Steps to prepare to register:

1) Next to each of your choices, write a sentence stating the reason for your choice.

2) Write out your parents' handphone numbers and email addresses.

3)Have ready your passport and any medical information you need like allergies to food or medicine.

On Sunday after 3 pm:

Return to the website and click on REGISTER HERE.

With one of your parents sitting next to you, register online. Click on REGISTER HERE on the GAP web site and that will take you to the 2 registration forms.

1. GAP Registration Required Information Part I Click SUBMIT + then continue.

2. GAP Registration Goals Part II

3. Your registration deadline is Friday, May 14th. Register this weekend so that all options are available to you. Trips will begin to close as they become full. Those last to register will not have the same access to options as those who register promptly.

4. Check that your passport is valid till April 25th, 2011. Apply for a new one if you

need to so that you are able to travel. All travelers need 6 months validity on your

passport and since GAP trips return October 23/24/25, your passport must be

valid till April 25th, 2011.

CONGRATULATIONS!!
